The wasn't working with DXO, because of something "non-standard" that DXO does, but PM put in a fix to work around it. With C1 (used in browser mode) you can drag a thumbnail to C1, and it will just open with no need to import, and from a support question on the PM forum, you can set DXO up as an external editor in PM Plus, and Cmd +E will open files from PM Plus in DXO, assuming you have set up DXO as PMs external editor. On a Mac (I believe it's different on Windows) you can drag a thumbnail from PM to LR and the import dialog will open. In it's favour it PM allows searches to be saved (but without the structure allowed by smart folders), and to create some sophisticated search scripts. Another solution is to take RAW+Jpeg, and PMPlus will then use the Jpeg as a the preview. You can resolve this by telling PM Plus to use Adobe's DNG converter, to build larger previews, but then this increases the time needed to build the PMPlus catalogue. Not a problem with Nikon or Canon as they use high quality previews. This makes the catalogue building very fast, BUT, if you use Sony, Olympus, or Fuji, you are stuck with low quality previews in the catalogue. Within it's limitations, PM is still faster than LR and C1, but probably not Neofinder.Īlso unlike any other DAM, PM Plus doesn't build uniform sized previews for it's catalogue, it continues with it's practice of using the RAW embedded jpegs, which it simply embeds in the catalogue. These are all standard tools on every DAM I've used, and I make regular use of them, in my current Lightroom, Capture One and Neofinder catalogues. For example, it doesn't have smart collections, only allows searching across a limited number of IPTC fields, and doesn't have a way of searching for file orientation. The DAM feature added to their Plus version, is a great addition to the overall functionality of PM, as it allows very fast searching across large file collections.īut I'm finding it limited as a full DAM replacement. Once you have used it, even as other programs have become better and faster at these tasks it's difficult to give up on PM. It has also has some useful tools for exporting and uploading files to the cloud and agencies. sports, wildlife and wedding photographers. It's still the favoured tool for many people working with large numbers of photographs that need to be sorted, culled and keyworded very quickly e.g. Photo Mechanic is a very fast and versatile "swiss army knife" type tool for ingesting and managing files from the camera, including key wording. Does anyone use Photo Mechanic Plus for asset management?ĭo you have any experiences with PMP operating with any particular editing suite other than adobe?
